Welcome to Fort Baldwin, Maine, and some wonderful drone footage above this beautiful historic structure. This was initially built as a coastal defense structure, starting in 1905. This entailed several cannon like guns on pedestal mounts. Too bad for those poor blokes who probably had to eat sour mash and gruel...now there is a wonderful ocean-view restaurant, and bar, named Spinney's, with standard fare American pub food, burgers, fish and chips, good micro-beer, an all around very nice eater
This is a "must-do" nature walk out to a small peninsula through a beautiful oak and pine forest. Parking is limited, but free! Yay! Free parking? Hard to find! It's called "The Knob" Great fishing from rocks in summer, a couple small beaches for picnics and a brew, plenty of sea shells for your shell collection...wow, could it get better?
This is the bridge that became mighty famous after the movie "Jaws" had some clips filmed here. The beaches and activity still look exactly like the movie...packed with picnic-going families, kids on rafts and skim-boards, kids bridge-jumping, Ice cream trucks, and worried parents. Fact: there are now many more great white sharks swimming here than when the movie was filmed due to high seal population.
